Mike Gallagher: Liars Anonymous
by Victor Thorn

Mike Gallagher --- undeniably the most deceptive man on American talk radio --- showed once again in utterly pathetic fashion just how low he can sink. On the morning of Friday, October 22, 2004, Gallagher broadcast his syndicated radio show from the Holiday Inn Express in State College, Pa. For weeks he had been hyping this event, so Lisa Guliani and I decided to show up and cover it for WING TV. Now, considering how Gallagher tried to get us arrested two months earlier in Williamsport, Pa. by calling us “stalkers,” we took every precaution possible to insure that nobody got the wrong idea about us.

The first thing we did was contact Penn State Police Services to let them know we would be attending Gallagher’s movie premier Friday evening. The individuals we met with were Police Supervisor Dwight W. Smith; and Don Reed, who was in charge of covering this event. We next met with Barbara L. Meeker, Director of Campus and Community Affairs, and filled-out the necessary permits to be on campus property. Thirdly, we visited Patton Township Police Officer Shoemaker and let him know that we would be attending the Friday morning broadcast. Lastly, we spoke with the Holiday Inn Express General Manager, Tracy Holmes, on three different occasions to inform her that we would be covering Gallagher’s appearance as members of the media (this event was open to the public); and that we would not be protesting or causing any trouble (i.e. no fliers, signs, etc).

Each and every one of the above individuals told us that they had no objection to us exercising our First Amendment rights (freedom of the press), and Ms. Holmes from the Holiday Inn Express explicitly gave us permission to attend the Friday morning broadcast.

Now, before I move on and prove Mike Gallagher’s lies, let me ask you a question: do the above actions seem indicative of what a “stalker” would do? I always thought stalkers worked clandestinely, sneaking around and lurking in the shadows. They certainly don’t go out of their way to let people in official positions of power know each and every one of their intended steps. Hell, we even left three separate phone messages for Mike’s producer – Jason Hiatt – apprising him of our every move.

So, with all of our bases supposedly covered, Lisa Guliani and I entered the Holiday Inn Express on Friday morning and proceeded to cover the above-mentioned event. (And I have to tell you, the look on Gallagher’s face when he saw us was priceless. I honestly thought he was going to vomit right there on the spot --- all over his expensive radio equipment. Every drop of blood seemed to drain from his face while he rapidly spiraled into an anxiety attack. Do we really have that much of an effect on him?) Anyway, while I scribbled notes, Lisa snapped a few pictures. But then, approximately 7-8 minutes later, six police officers (who were already stationed there) informed us that we would have to leave the premises. When we told them that Ms. Holmes gave us permission to be there, the officers told us that this was private property, and if we didn’t leave we would be arrested.

When I asked specifically who wanted us off the premises, the officers informed me that it was “Mike Gallagher’s people” because “we were making Mike nervous.” Tracy Holmes, the general manager, also told us the same exact thing. So, a few minutes later we left the Holiday Inn Express without incident.

But then, at 5:00 pm, Mike Gallagher appeared on a student radio show called Radio Free Penn State. About fifteen minutes into the broadcast I called this station and asked the following question (by the way, this is a verbatim transcript taken directly from our tape recorder):

“Mike, I want to know why you had Victor Thorn and Lisa Guliani from WING TV removed from the Holiday Inn Express today.”

Mike Gallagher’s response (verbatim): “I didn’t have anybody removed. There were protestors removed who weren’t welcome.”

I then interrupted (verbatim): “Mike, this is Victor Thorn, and we weren’t protesting. You’re lying, and I thought it was a very cowardly act on your part.”

Now, here we are at the CRUX OF THE LIE. We absolutely were not protesting, and to prove it, all you’d have to do is ask any person in attendance, including:

       - Tracy Holmes, General Manager of the Holiday Inn Express
       - Erin Nissley, Centre Daily Times reporter on the scene
       - The six Patton Township police officers present

All of these people, plus dozens of other attendees, saw first-hand that there was NO PROTEST. NONE. Zero. So before we proceed, we need to pause for a moment and look at Mike Gallagher’s response during this radio broadcast. When I asked him why he had us evicted, Mike could have told the truth and said, “We were on private property that we rented for the event, and since I don’t like Lisa Guliani and you, I had you removed because you were making me nervous.”

But instead, what was Mike’s FIRST reaction – his FIRST inclination? It was to lie. Can’t you see by now that he is so conditioned to deceive people that without hesitation this is what he does? This practice is such an integral part of his make-up that it has become a sickness; a form of incurable disease which he desperately needs help for.

But that’s not the end of his untruthfulness. Later during the same broadcast of Radio Free Penn State, Gallagher said (again, verbatim from our tape): “He [referring to me] was removed by the police because they knew the guy. They recognized him, and they asked him to leave. I didn’t have anything to do with it. That was up to the police, not me.”

Now Mike, the officers specifically told me that it was YOUR PEOPLE who wanted us removed, not them. In fact, they were somewhat embarrassed by the whole “non-event.” So, are you telling me that you’re calling all of these officers liars? Also, Tracy Holmes, the Holiday Inn Express General Manager, told me that it was YOU who wanted us gone, and that she had no problem whatsoever with our presence. (In fact, she even thanked me for being such a gentleman.) Mike, are you calling HER a liar too? Even the Centre Daily Times reported on October 23, 2004: “Not everyone who attended the live broadcast was allowed to stay. Officers who milled around the lobby Friday morning were asked to remove two journalists representing WING TV, at the request of the hotel staff.” The article went on to say, “Victor Thorn said he had asked permission from the hotel staff to be there the previous day and didn’t know why he was asked to leave.”

As Ms. Holmes told us, it was YOU who asked hotel staff to have us removed. With this in mind, and considering your long history of habitual deceit, do you want us to believe that every single person on the scene was lieing – including police officers, hotel staff, and journalists – and you’re the only one telling the truth? This is a pathetic display on your part, especially how you blamed our eviction on the police, who had nothing whatsoever to do with it. As I’ve written before, I have no idea how you can look yourself in the mirror each morning, because you’re a disgrace.

To close this article, I’d like to say something to Mike Gallagher man-to man: you have a serious problem. You lie easily, you lie frequently, and guess what – everybody knows it. Your boss, Gregg Anderson (president of the Salem Radio Network) is reading these articles; so are your co-workers at SRN, along with your colleagues at Fox News. I should know, because I send hard copies to each and every one of them. And guess what they’re saying behind your back: MIKE GALLAGHER IS A LIAR. Sure, they might not say it to your face; but trust me, they’re all talking around the water cooler. And what is their sentiment? Well, in simplest terms it is as such: every word you say is now cast in the light of suspicion because of your practices. And in all honesty, I don’t know how you can live with yourself knowing that everybody distrusts practically every word that comes out of your mouth.

Mike, you need serious psychological help for your problem, and you better get it soon. Better yet, since you say your show is about “total honesty” (another bold-faced lie), why don’t you come out and admit your problem on-air?

“Hello - my name is Mike, and I’m a pathological liar.”

From my perspective, there’s no better time than the present, because whether you know it or not, these articles are going to catch up with you someday and bite you in the ass. Mike, do the right thing and be a man --- the truth will set you free.
