Jeff Rense's Bait & Switch

Right now, more than anybody else, Jeff Rense personifies what is so horribly wrong with the alternative media. Not only does this guy suppress vital information (that the public needs) dependent solely on his whimsical likes and dislikes, but he has been recently caught red-handed (again) censoring information from the articles on his website. Worse, he concocted a bold-faced lie to divert people’s attention away from his actions.

Here’s what transpired. After we published an article exposing Jeff Rense’s censorship practices, along with some follow-up commentary by 17 members of the alternative media who spoke-out on this issue, Jeff Rense was so desperate that he resorted to out-and-out lying.

    • In a frenzied, hysteria-laced piece entitled Chicken WINGS Clucking and Flapping Again , Rense wrote the following:

                   “In one of their recent “journalistic triumphs,” the wings even made up a female ‘Jeff                Rense doll,’ put it in a dress, and had it portray deviant sexual behaviors …”

    The only problem is; Rense lied through his teeth. Let me explain what actually happened. On our May 25, 2005 WING TV show, Lisa Guliani and I wanted to poke some fun at Jeff Rense’s disguises (i.e. how he constantly wears a fake wig, fake glasses, fake moustache, and fake contact lenses to conceal his identity). We joked that he ends-up looking like a Barbie doll, or a cheap transvestite.

    So, during the above-mentioned episode of WING TV, we announced that “Jeff Rense” would be appearing LIVE, but in actuality all we did was show a Barbie doll for 24 seconds. During that brief period we laughed and horsed around, and that was it. A simple light-hearted gag to make fun of Jeff Rense’s peculiar wigs, etc (and in all honesty, who the hell wears disguises in this day-and-age? Don’t you find that just a little bit odd in a Michael Jackson sort of way?)

    But being that Rense was so paranoid about 17 members of the alternative media speaking-out about his censorship, what he did was pull an old bait-and-switch … a rope-a-dope … and a Wag the Dog maneuver all rolled into one by saying that we made the Barbie doll do “deviant sexual behaviors.”

    In essence what he did was LIE to everyone to divert their attention away from his brazen CENSORSHIP. And to prove it, simply click onto our HALL OF SHAME link, then scroll down to the Jeff Rense section and watch the “Barbie doll” episode. There you’ll see how tame and harmless it really was – no sex, no porn, no nakedness, and no provocative poses. Just two people goofing around. (And remember, we’re all still allowed to laugh in the alternative media, aren’t we? It seems like some of these guys are doing nothing but selling so much gloom n’ doom and end of the world paranoia that its a miracle their audience doesn't commit mass suicide, or suffer from clinical depression.)

    Now, some people may say it isn’t a big deal that Jeff Rense is a liar, and who cares about setting the record straight about this episode. But we’d have to respectfully disagree with this lackadaisical attitude because what it boils down to is simple HONESTY. First Jeff Rense censored an article after it had already published (without the author’s knowledge or consent), then he LIED to cover his tracks.

    So ask yourself: what kind of person engages in such behavior? Rense lied to you so he wouldn’t have to answer for his Big Brother-style antics. And when all is said and done, how much can you trust someone like that? Doesn’t what I’ve described sound exactly like what the government does after they’re caught red-handed? They use misdirection, deception, end-arounds, obvious distractions, and outright lies. It seems Rense has learned his lessons very well from their playbook.

    Anyway, as Lisa Guliani says: “If somebody lies to you, they presume you’re stupid.”
