Sherman Skolnick, long-time political activist and researcher, died at the age of 73 this morning at his residence in Chicago, Illinois.
Skolnick had been involved in community affairs and exposing government corruption since the 1960s, as well as hosting a cable TV show called Broadside. He was also the founder of the Citizens Committee to Clean up the Courts, and was recognized as uncovering a bribery scandal that led to the resignation of Illinois Governor Otto Kerner in 1974 on perjury, bribery, and other charges.
Later in his life, Skolnick delved into the more hard-core realms of conspiracy research, and produced voluminous amounts of data that focused on the highest corridors of power. He was also known for his commentaries on Lenny Bloom’s Cloak & Dagger radio show.
Regrettably, during the latter portion of his career, Skolnick also became involved with a cadre of questionable characters who produced a series of un-sourced, unverifiable, sensationalized stories which tended to bring quite a bit of discredit to some otherwise unique work.
Our condolences go out to Mr. Skolnick’s family, relatives, friends, and colleagues.
